Indian Diversity Conclave 2024
Indian Diversity Conclave 2024 (hosted by the India Diversity Forum)
As a newcomer to India, the warmth of the welcome I received at the event fostered a sense of connection that I cherish. The commitment to diversity and inclusion demonstrated by the Forum was evident throughout the conclave, and I felt privileged to be part of such important conversations.
I listened to remarkable individuals and organizations share their journeys and insights. Discussions on addressing Pay Parity, led by Joanna Shruti Sundharam & Bijuraj Balakrishnan, and encouraging Allyship, Solidarity, and Active Engagement in advancing DEI goals, led by Manvendra Singh Gohil & Sweta Mantrii, were particularly enlightening. These discussions emphasized to me the ongoing work needed to create more equitable and inclusive workplaces.
Attending the Masterclass on Counterbalancing Unconscious Bias, facilitated by Pallavi Sankhe, Corporate Trainer and Consultant, provided valuable insights. It not only deepened my understanding of the complexities surrounding biases but also led me to develop an appreciation for the unconscious biases that may be present within my cultural background and in my "nested country." I left the session with a renewed commitment to challenging my own biases and fostering inclusivity in my work.
The panel discussion on the power and responsibility of the CHRO and impact assessment beyond metrics gave candid insights into successes and learnings, serving as a humbling reminder of the importance of continuous growth in this field.
My passion for mental wellness and neurodiversity in the workplace (and beyond) was notably ignited during the conclave. Though not extensively covered, I see immense potential for growth within these strands of conversation. Recognizing the importance of incorporating them into broader discussions on diversity and inclusion, I believe there is immense value in exploring how mental health and neurodiversity intersect with workplace dynamics, fostering longevity and sustainability in our commitment to inclusive practices.
This was something I explored with my colleague, psychologist Rhea D., and Vinnie Gollar, a DEI speaker and Queer rights activist—among many other amazing conversations during the conclave. Their insights and perspectives added depth and nuances, reinforcing my belief in the significance of collaboration and the diverse range of voices in fostering meaningful change.
I am eager to expand the dialogues in these areas to further enhance our collective efforts towards fostering truly inclusive environments.
