Embracing Connection – Inclusive Workplaces (DEIJ)

emb1Embracing Connection: The Intention Behind Hosting the Inclusive Workplaces (DEIJ) for PeerSphere

I am co-hosting the Inclusive Workplaces (DEIJ) PeerSphere Community with Rhea D., a remarkable psychologist with whom I’ve had the privilege of working closely. Our hope for this workshop goes beyond surface-level discussions of diversity and inclusion; it is a deep, compassionate inquiry into the lived experiences of individuals.

We aim to create spaces where these unique perspectives are not just acknowledged but are integral in shaping the collective environment and beyond.

In my experiences—from working in refugee resettlement projects, school counselling services, and even within judicial systems—I’ve seen the profound impact of being genuinely seen and heard. Living with ADHD, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia, I’ve come to realise that what society often labels as limitations can, in truth, be unique sources of strength when we’re given the space to express our true selves.

When we are not allowed to be who we truly are, the absence of genuine connection is felt deeply and outcomes devastating. But in environments where we are embraced as we are, those same so-called limitations become our most powerful assets.

Since moving to India a year ago, I’ve had the valuable experience of meeting individuals who embody a deep commitment to inclusion across various dimensions. People like Pallavi Sankhe, a passionate advocate for DEIB; Vinnie Gollar, a speaker on DEI and a dedicated activist for Trans and Queer rights; Sweta Mantrii, who champions Disability Inclusion while bringing humour to the cause as a stand-up comic; and Dr. Ketna Mehta, who leads the Nina Foundation for spinal injury rehabilitation.

These connections, as well as the warmth and dedication I encountered at the Indian Diversity Conclave 2024, have broadened my focus from neuro inclusion to the wider scope of DEIJ work in the workplace, revealing the profound impact of true inclusion in all its forms.

In this PeerSphere community, Rhea and I are committed to moving beyond discussions—we’re here to take action. It’s about creating spaces where equity is more than just a concept, where inclusion means genuine participation, and where justice is a continuous pursuit.

As David Breakspear, a peer mentor at Revolving Doors, aptly said, “It’s not about where you start, it’s about where you’re going.” This reminds us that our collective efforts can pave the way for meaningful change.

We’d love for you to join us! 💪🌍 PeerSphere
